This Honyaki was forged by Satoshi Nakagawa from Shirogami 2 and hardened in water. The blade was then mirror polished and fitted with an ebony handle. The ferrule is made of white buffalo horn. The hamon of the blade represents Mt. Fuji, as well as a sun and a moon on the back and front respectively.
The blade has a protective varnish which should definitely be removed. Also, as is usual with a Honyaki, the blade is not "perfect" but shows traces of handwork!

The knife is made of reactive carbon steel and requires special care. Since the knife is not rustproof, it should be dried carefully after each use. After some time, a dark patina will form which offers the knife additional protection.
