About me

"My goal is for you to find the knife that's perfect for you and your kitchen - with high-quality, handcrafted knives that take your cooking experience to a new level."

Hello! My name is Matthias and I now live in Munich.

I love dogs, tattoos, cooking and of course: Japanese kitchen knives! With my online shop, I've basically turned my hobby into a (part-time) job.

But how did it all actually start?
First and foremost, I am a trained chef. When the kitchen became too small for me, I started travelling. During this two-year trip around the world, I ended up in Japan and bought my first hand-forged Japanese knife in Sakai.
Back in Germany, I taught myself grinding and offered my services online.

But at some point I started getting more questions about the knives in the example pictures (“Where can I buy these?!”) than about my sharpening service. I had no choice but to place a larger order – and that’s how my online shop was born.

Since then, my love for this Japanese craft has continued to grow. The enthusiasm for the incredible sharpness that the Japanese master smiths achieve with precise handwork has never left me. I am supported in this by my wife, who comes from near Seki, another famous knife town in Japan.

I don't want to seem like a big company, because I'm not that in the classic sense. Instead, I personally stand behind every single product - and more than 1,000 satisfied customers can confirm that.
It is important to me that our collaboration is fair – for you, for me and for the manufacturers.

It may happen that a knife you are looking for is not available for a while. However, I try to keep the shop up to date and filled with kitchen tools that I also use myself.

If you have any questions or are looking for a specific product, you can contact me at any time! Whether via the contact form, social media or email - I'm here for you.

Even if you don't buy anything, I thank you for visiting. Without you, I wouldn't be able to live my passion to this extent!

PS: I'm often asked about my favorite knives. As a nerd, I like almost all of them, but my favorites are the knives from Sakai! :)
