When Japan changed from a feudal to a capitalist state towards the end of the 19th century, the demand for samurai swords fell dramatically. This led to many old blacksmiths suddenly finding themselves in financial difficulties. But only a short time later, some resourceful blacksmiths developed the "Higonokami" (English: short knife).
The Higonokami is a small, slim folding knife with a distinctive thumb lever that prevents accidental closing. This makes the "Higo" the perfect everyday companion and suitable for almost any task.
Today, this small pocket knife is being forged by the fifth generation of blacksmith Mitsuo Nagao.
With its versatility, the Higonokami is the ideal everyday companion - whether for opening packages or having a picnic in the forest, it feels at home in every use.
