Grit 1000: Your workhorse. Every knife should touch a 1000 grit at least once. This determines the decisive sharpness for the subsequent grits. This stone grinds quickly and evenly. It is suitable for almost all types of knives. Whether outdoor, pocket or kitchen knives.
The RockStar stones are the latest series from Shapton and have many similarities to the Glass series. Both stones are made of the same, exceptionally high-quality, white aluminum oxide and the binder is also the same.
Shapton himself does not explain further whether these are the same stones, but it can be assumed that they are.
The biggest difference to the Glass series is definitely the thickness. This has been doubled from 5 mm to a full 10 mm!
All stones in the series offer the same great grinding feel and feedback regardless of the grain size, where the coarseness varies. This sets the series apart from the Kuromaku stones, which all feel quite different.
The RockStar brick is a Splash-n-Go brick, which means that very little water is needed. You just wet the brick and you're ready to go.
I recommend removing the rough surface layer of the stone with a dressing block before first use. This is of course not necessary, but it improves the grinding feel.
